Boating Information

Boaters born on or after 1 July 1972 must have passed an approved boater saftey course.

Boats over 16 feet must have a throwable type IV Personal Flotation Device

All recreational boats must carry one wearable Personal Flotation Device for each person aboard.

Children under age 13 must wear a approved Personal Flotation Device on a recreational vessel under 21 feet.

Children under age 4 must wear a special Personal Flotation Device check with DNR for details.

You must be 16 years or older to operate a personal watercraft in Maryland. Special rules apply at Deep Creek Lake. Please check with DNR.

Water Emergency

If you on Deep Creek lake and need emergency help please find the DNR issued registration plates at the end of each dock. If you call 911 and tell the dispatcher you are on Deep Creek Lake near dock number (use number on the registration plate) they will have your GPS coordinates on file and know exactly where you are. This will allow help to arrive faster.

If you just need towed off the water Bill Marine Service (301-387-6625) or Patterson Boat Company (301)-387-5000 will launch their tow boat for you. Just know you will have to pay the going rate for on the water tow service.
