Sky Valley Members;

Thanks go out to the 35 members who showed up for the annual fall cleanup and picnic lunch. We cleanup up several areas and gathered up over a dozen truckloads of dead branches and trees. Next cleanup will be in April 2025 date to be announced in the next newsletter. Our crew also worked with members to make it a very successful day!

NOTICE TO MEMBERS-Volunteers Needed

SKY VALLEY SEMI-ANNUAL FIREWISE CLEANUP DAY

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2024

Meet at 8:30AM at the Maint. Building
We will be doing cleanup of various green areas in Sky Valley to accumulate volunteer hours for another Grant. These efforts by members reduce fire potential as well as improve the appearance of Sky Valley.

We are planning to have a BBQ lunch at noon. Food contributions are welcome as usual. Volunteers are needed to help set up lunch. Please let either Rick Broadwater (301 387 7190) or Bob Sutton (301 387 4957) know if you would like to help with lunch.

This is a good chance to meet some neighbors and contribute to YOUR community. Over the years we have received over $80,000 from Firewise by putting in a little time ourselves every year. This is money we did not have to take from our budget. Volunteer hours for this effort also can count as community service days for school students who need to accumulate time.

Please put this on your calendar and plan on helping out. Bring gloves and wear old clothes – we will be dragging branches and brush to the trucks and trailers to take to the burn pile. Also doing work on the trees planted along SV Drive.

Sky Valley Association, Inc. is proud to be one of the few official Firewise Communities in the State of Maryland

During the Fall General Meeting is became known that some owners were using www.skyvalleyhoa.com for their Sky Valley information.  That website was created by a Sky Valley Member who is now deceased.  As of 09/12/2024, the website www.skyvalleyhoa.com is shut down for lack of payment since 2018.

Our official website will continue to be www.SkyValleyDCL.com.

The Skining Bear Sky Valley Teashirt is no longer available due to events beyond our control.

The picnic was again a big success with about 170 attendees. Thanks to everyone who came despite the rainy day. The pig and beef were roasted this year offsite and they did a great job – they was very tasty
So we will consider using them again next year. Thanks to Nancy Lloyd for chairing the event this year and all the folks that helped out. Joey the fiddle player added music to dinner and was very entertaining again. The rain was not a problem and at least stopped during dinner.

Next year there will be no rain on the first Saturday in August – guaranteed!

In an effort to increase communication and transparency, the Board wants to provide an update on the vote on the revised bylaws at the Spring Membership Meeting. The bylaws passed with a vote of 143 for and 20 against.

We know many of you had concerns regarding the By-Laws.  The Board wants to assure you that your concerns have been heard and will be addressed. As noted at the Membership Meeting, the Board has established a Documentation Committee that will be reviewing all comments and concerns received regarding the bylaws (sanitized to remove names and personal info) and will be providing a recommendation to the Board on how to address each comment. The committee will also review and revise, as necessary, the rules and regulations. To that end, the Board is seeking two volunteers to participate on that committee. Notice to Members:

                Potomac Edison will be trimming trees along their power lines in Sky Valley in August 2024. You should have received a notice on your door if you were not at home from them notifying you of this project.

On May 25,2024 at the Spring Members Meeting the revised By Laws were voted on and approved by the membership. They are now posted on the Website and go into effect immediately. During the period after they were first sent out, the Board has received numerous suggestions for modifications to this document. The Board will now form a committee comprised of several BOD members and non Board members to go thru the correspondence and decide what revisions should be considered. The goal will be to come up with a revision to be voted on at the Fall members meeting. By passing the current Bylaw document, we can now do the vote electronically if you have submitted a consent form that was included in the original package you received.
                If you have not submitted the consent form you received or need another form, contact the office. You cannot vote electronically unless we have the form filed!

Rules Information:
                Rules that were in the old Bylaws have been removed from the new document and have been added to the “Rules” and will be posted on this website. There are no changes to the rules and they remain in effect. The next task the BOD will undertake will be to re-write the rules document to clarify some of the wording and reorganize it for better understanding. Also due to state law, the “fines” section needs a re-write to be in compliance. The revised Rule Document will be sent to the membership for comments before the Board will vote on it.
