I am sending out information for our neighbors at Thousand Acres. Below you  will find a flyer of D's Eats & BBQ and Queen City Creamy ice cream trucks. They will be at the Thousand Acres Golf Club on July 5th, from 2 to 6. If you are in the area stop and have some good food and dessert.

Road Update
                
Our efforts to complete this years road repairs have been delayed by contractor equipment breakdowns. We know the dust is terrible due to the very dry weather and the fact that we cannot spread the dust bond effectively until we complete the road work or it is just wasted. Hopefully we will complete the roads by June 9 with a little luck!
In the meantime please drive VERY SLOW to avoid make a dust cloud. We appreciate your patience and hope for some rain!

A big thank you to all the members that drove slow over the holiday weekend to keep the dust down.

SKY VALLEY ANNUAL Picnic and  PIG ROAST

This annual event is scheduled for Saturday, August 5, 2023 at the beach. Cocktails and games start at 3PM and dinner at 5PM. Bring a covered dish to share with the crowd and your own drinks! We will have pork BBQ, beef round, and most likely fresh venison. Volunteers are needed for setup, games, cleanup and cutting up the meat on 8/5. We will roasting the pig beginning about 8PM at the shop and help is needed overnight to maintain the fire – and also party!

This year we will have live entertainment during dinner at the beach from an fellow who sings and plays banjo and electric fiddle. He is very good and plays all types of music.

Volunteers are needed and appreciated since there is a lot to be done in a short time so HELP. Please call the manager (301 387 7190) or Bob Sutton (301 387 4957) if you want to help or need information.

A big thanks to the members who came out in the rain yesterday to help with the cleanup and tree planting projects. Despite the lousy weather we got about 95% of what we intended to do accomplished.
We planted over 50 trees donated to Sky Valley by the Maryland Forestry Service. A date for the fall cleanup will be in the next newsletter so remember to come out and help in the fall.

Volunteers Needed

SKY VALLEY SEMI-ANNUAL FIREWISE CLEANUP DAY

SATURDAY, April 22, 2023

Meet at 8:30AM at the  Maintenance  Building

We will be doing cleanup of various green areas in Sky Valley to accumulate volunteer hours for another Grant.  We also will be planting some small trees in the common areas that we will receive from the DNR reforestation program. Please bring a shovel if you want to help plant. We will work from 9AM until 12 noon.
We are planning to have a BBQ lunch at noon. Food contributions are welcome as usual. Volunteers are needed to help set up lunch. Please let either Rick Broadwater (301 387 7190) or Bob Sutton (301 387 4957) know if you would like to help with lunch.

This is a good chance to meet some neighbors and contribute to YOUR community. Over the years we have received over $80,000 from Firewise by putting in a little time ourselves every year. This is money we did not have to take from our budget. Volunteer hours for this effort also can count as community service days for school students who need to accumulate time.
Please put this on your calendar and plan on helping out. Bring gloves and wear old clothes – we will be dragging branches and brush to the trucks and trailers to take to the burn pile.
